The definitive etiology of thymic cancers is not yet fully elucidated. However, factors such as early-life exposure to radiotherapy and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection are thought to increase risk factors. Whether thymic tumors demonstrate a genetic predisposition is still a subject of ongoing research.
