As atherosclerotic plaques progress, they can lead to narrowing and blockages in blood vessels. Particularly in young patients, even if the vessels show a 30-40% stenosis, the plaque structure may not yet be severely hardened. These "vulnerable" plaques, described as softer and more dynamic, can suddenly rupture, triggering the formation of clots on their surface. This situation can lead to severe cardiovascular events such as sudden heart attacks. A significant portion of heart attack-related deaths in young individuals is associated with these types of unstable plaques.
