The precise etiology of Kawasaki disease is not yet fully understood. However, current research suggests that it likely results from a combination of genetic predispositions, viral or bacterial infections, and environmental triggers. The observation of an elevated risk among siblings of affected children supports the role of genetic factors. Additionally, the higher prevalence of the disease in populations of Asian descent further suggests that certain genetic variations may contribute to its development. Kawasaki disease is not contagious. While it can occur throughout the year, there is a notable seasonal pattern, with an increased incidence often observed during the autumn and winter months.
