Fluid accumulation in the lung does not occur in every case of pneumonia. Particularly when pneumonia is diagnosed early and managed with appropriate antibiotic treatment, complete recovery is usually achieved without any fluid accumulation. However, if diagnosis is delayed or the infection affects a large portion of the lung, significant fluid accumulation may be observed. Fluid accumulations related to pneumonia that do not resolve spontaneously may sometimes require additional medical interventions, such as drainage. Beyond pneumonia, other conditions such as tuberculosis, lung abscess, or certain types of cancer can also cause fluid to collect in the lung, and these conditions require specific treatment.
