For pregnancies conceived through embryo transfer (ET), gestational age (GA) is determined by establishing an equivalent Last Menstrual Period (LMP) or directly calculating based on the transfer date and embryo's age.
The standard calculation methods are:
1. For Day 3 (cleavage stage) embryos: To find the equivalent LMP, subtract 17 days from the embryo transfer date. Gestational age is then calculated from this equivalent LMP. Alternatively, on the day of transfer, the pregnancy is considered to be 2 weeks and 3 days (2w3d) gestational age.
2. For Day 5 (blastocyst stage) embryos: To find the equivalent LMP, subtract 19 days from the embryo transfer date. Gestational age is then calculated from this equivalent LMP. Alternatively, on the day of transfer, the pregnancy is considered to be 2 weeks and 5 days (2w5d) gestational age.
Clinical software and ultrasonography devices often have specific settings or input fields to accommodate IVF pregnancies, allowing for direct entry of the transfer date and embryo age for accurate gestational age calculation.
