Individuals with reflux should avoid foods that delay gastric emptying, such as fried foods, chocolate, and fatty meals. Spicy foods should be consumed with caution. Additionally, acidic foods and beverages like citrus fruits, carbonated drinks, and certain spices should be avoided as they can increase esophageal acid exposure. Beyond dietary adjustments, lifestyle modifications such as weight loss, smoking cessation, elevating the head of the bed, and avoiding lying down within 2-3 hours after meals can significantly reduce esophageal acid exposure.
