For the capsule endoscopy procedure, the patient arrives at the clinic on an empty stomach on the morning of the procedure. The capsule is swallowed by the patient with a glass of water. Two hours after ingesting the capsule, the patient may consume liquids; after four hours, light solid foods can be eaten. The patient is required to return to the clinic approximately six hours later. To facilitate the capsule's progression through the bowel by increasing intestinal motility, light walking is recommended. However, strenuous activities like running, jumping, and exercises that cause sweating should be strictly avoided. The capsule, which has a battery life of approximately 8 hours, is expected to have traversed the entire small intestine and reached the large intestine by the end of this period. During the procedure, care should be taken to ensure that the device connections do not become dislodged, and the warning lights on the recording device should be checked periodically. At the end of this period, the recording device is removed from the patient, connected to a computer, and all images are transferred. Thousands of captured images become viewable through special software. The doctor reviews the photos recorded by the device for approximately 3 hours and reports the findings.
