Tay-Sachs disease is caused by a deficiency of the Hexosaminidase-A enzyme, secreted from an organelle called the lysosome. This deficiency leads to the accumulation of abnormal fatty substances in nerve cells and the nervous system, which in turn causes damage and death of nerve cells.
