Stage four of COPD is the most advanced stage of the disease. In this stage, the following symptoms may appear: Severe shortness of breath and respiratory difficulty, Unexplained sudden weight loss, Irregular heartbeats (arrhythmia), Wheezing during respiration, Chronic cough which may be productive of sputum.
