Cardiovascular diseases are currently evaluated with a holistic approach due to increased mortality rates and the formation of stenoses in the heart and brain arteries through similar mechanisms. In this context, peripheral artery disease (PAD) is not merely a condition causing impaired blood supply to the affected organs; it is a serious systemic illness that affects all bodily systems. While atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) is the most common cause, especially in individuals over 50, rarer causes may include inflammatory diseases of the vascular wall, rheumatic conditions, congenital blood disorders, or coagulation disorders.
