Infertility is the inability to conceive despite regular, unprotected sexual intercourse for a specified period (typically one year). This condition is referred to as "primary infertility" in couples who have never experienced a pregnancy, while it is defined as "secondary infertility" in couples who have previously had at least one successful pregnancy but are subsequently unable to conceive again. The causes for both types of infertility can be similar or vary.
