The ACTH (Adrenocorticotropic Hormone) test is a diagnostic tool that measures the level of ACTH in the blood and assesses the functional response of the adrenal glands. This test helps evaluate the overall function of both the adrenal glands and the pituitary gland within the body. Furthermore, the ACTH test is crucial in diagnosing adrenal-related conditions such as Cushing's syndrome, characterized by excessively high cortisol levels, or Addison's disease, which presents with abnormally low cortisol levels. The procedure involves collecting a blood sample, which is then analyzed in a laboratory. The results are subsequently evaluated and interpreted by an Endocronology specialist.
