The right and left chambers of the heart work in an interconnected and coordinated manner. Therefore, it is not always possible to completely separate congestive heart failure distinctly into purely right or left heart failure; they often influence each other. However, if a distinction based on prominent symptoms is needed: Left heart failure primarily manifests with symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing, and fatigue, by leading to fluid accumulation in the lungs. Right heart failure, on the other hand, is characterized by fluid accumulation (edema) and swelling in other parts of the body (such as the legs, abdomen).
