Radiographic examination (X-ray) is primarily used in the diagnosis of Paget's disease. Rarely, magnetic resonance (MR) imaging can also provide complementary information. In both imaging methods, diffuse, irregular sclerosis (densification) and cortical thickening are frequently observed in the bones. Pathological fractures and bone deformities can also be detected. Especially in X-ray images, bones may typically exhibit a ground-glass or cotton-wool appearance. In the skull bones, characteristic 'punched-out' osteolytic lesions can be observed.
