To diagnose adenitis, a detailed patient history and a physical examination performed by the physician are of great importance. During the physical examination, the physician may detect swollen lymph nodes. In this situation, blood tests may be requested to determine the presence of an infection. Additionally, imaging tests such as ultrasonography, X-rays, and computed tomography can also assist in the diagnosis. Rarely, to rule out the possibility of a tumor or cancer, a biopsy of the lymph tissue may be required. This biopsy can be performed as a fine-needle aspiration or by surgical removal of the entire lymph node.
