Following POEM procedure for achalasia, the patient requires a diet consisting of liquids and soft foods during their hospital stay. Patients are typically discharged after 2-3 days. Following discharge, a diet of liquids and soft foods should be continued for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, a return to a normal diet is possible. However, lifelong avoidance of reflux-inducing foods, and the preference for small, frequent meals, is recommended. Furthermore, food should be thoroughly chewed before swallowing.
