Lifestyle changes play a significant role in clearing heart plaques. Many factors contribute to the formation of cardiovascular plaques; these can be divided into modifiable and non-modifiable factors. A person's sex, age, and genetic predisposition are non-modifiable factors. On the other hand, high cholesterol levels, smoking and alcohol consumption, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, sedentary lifestyle, and unhealthy diet are modifiable risk factors. Treatment of cardiovascular plaques primarily involves cholesterol-lowering and blood-thinning medications. Regular physical activity should be undertaken, consumption of fatty and processed foods should be limited, and a healthy, balanced diet should be adopted. Weight control is essential. High blood pressure and diabetes must be controlled, and medications should be taken regularly. Smoking and alcohol should be avoided. Men over 45 and women over 55 should have their risk factors reviewed and undergo systematic checkups.
