Sentinel lymph node biopsy, when performed at the beginning of the operation, takes approximately 15 minutes. As it's part of the operation, it doesn't prolong the overall surgical time. Surgery continues during the frozen pathology waiting time. In fact, if no metastasis is found, the unnecessary removal – dissection – of axillary lymph nodes is avoided, shortening the operation time.
