Presbyopia is diagnosed through a comprehensive eye examination. This examination also aims to detect other vision defects such as myopia and astigmatism. The ophthalmologist performs various tests to evaluate both distant and near vision. As part of the examination, pupils are usually dilated with special drops. This procedure allows the physician to examine the internal structures of the eye in more detail; however, a temporary sensitivity to light may be experienced for a few hours afterward. Regular eye examinations are critically important for maintaining general eye health. It is recommended that individuals under the age of 40 undergo an eye examination every five years, those between 40 and 54 every two years, and individuals over 55 annually.
