Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) is an advanced endoscopic method used in the treatment of achalasia, among other esophageal diseases. In this procedure, performed in a limited number of centers worldwide, problematic muscles in the esophagus are endoscopically cut by accessing the esophagus through the mouth, similar to a standard endoscopy. This minimally invasive intervention aims to enable patients to swallow and eat comfortably again, particularly by addressing esophageal muscles affected by achalasia.
