Broken Heart Syndrome, also known as Takotsubo cardiomyopathy or Takotsubo syndrome, was first described by Japanese scientists. It typically occurs after major emotional or physical stress events such as divorce, bankruptcy, separation, or natural disasters. This condition, which causes a sudden weakening of the heart muscle due to acute stress, is often temporary. However, accurate and timely diagnosis is crucial because its symptoms can easily be mistaken for a heart attack. If treatment is delayed or not provided, it can trigger other health problems and become life-threatening. In this syndrome, while the heart continues to pump blood, a dysfunction in one part of the muscle leads to the manifestation of symptoms and affects the overall function of the heart muscle.
