Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition characterized by the body's inability to effectively metabolize glucose. This condition arises when the pancreas either produces insufficient insulin and/or the body's cells become resistant to insulin (insulin resistance), leading to elevated blood sugar (glucose) levels. As the most common type of diabetes, Type 2 diabetes requires lifelong management. In managing the disease, healthy eating, regular exercise, and weight control are vitally important. If these lifestyle changes are insufficient for blood sugar control, diabetes medications or insulin therapy may be recommended.
