For patients with impaired renal function, pre-procedural hydration (intravenous fluid administration) or other specific precautions are implemented. In instances of significant renal impairment, the management process is coordinated in conjunction with nephrology specialists. It is imperative for patients with known kidney issues to inform their physician prior to a cardiac MRI. A routine check of creatinine levels is conducted before a cardiac MRI. If recent creatinine values are available, a repeat test may not be necessary. However, if no current values are on record, a new blood creatinine test will be performed.
