When patients notice swelling or a mass in areas such as in front of the ear, under the jaw, in the mouth, or throat, and consult a doctor, the diagnostic process begins. If a salivary gland tumor is suspected after a physical examination, radiological imaging methods such as ultrasound, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), or CT (computed tomography) are utilized to support and detail the diagnosis. This is an important step taken following the examination. To establish a definitive diagnosis and formulate the most appropriate treatment plan, it may sometimes be necessary to take a cell or tissue sample from the mass via needle biopsy.
