Normally, an individual's mouth opening ranges between 40 and 60 mm. In cases of trismus, or 'locked jaw,' this opening can be severely restricted, often reducing to 20-30 mm. This significant limitation profoundly affects a person's ability to eat and speak. Although trismus frequently resolves within a few weeks, chronic or prolonged instances can lead to secondary complications like depression, often stemming from communication challenges.
