Spastic paraplegia is characterized by spasticity resulting from spinal cord injury. In this condition, a continuous contraction, inability to relax voluntarily, and tension are observed, particularly in the limbs and sometimes the trunk muscles. Over time, this can lead to permanent shortenings in the joints known as contractures.
