In the planning of tracheal surgery, accurately determining the diameter and length of the segment to be resected is of critical importance. As the trachea is an organ with an average length of 10-12 cm, very extensive segment resections can jeopardize surgical success or increase the risk of complications. Although cases of tracheal resection up to half its length have been reported in the literature, the rate of postoperative complications significantly increases as the extent of resection grows. Therefore, resections of narrow segments generally offer higher success rates. Accurately identifying the exact diameter and length characteristics of the narrowed segment preoperatively is essential for an optimal surgical approach.
