A wide variety of diseases can be observed in the esophagus. These primarily include tumors in the neck, intrathoracic esophagus, and gastric junction; sac-like formations such as Zenker's, midthoracic, or epiphrenic diverticula; large hernias where more than one-third of the stomach enters the thoracic cavity; motility disorders like achalasia and esophageal spasm; and conditions such as esophageal strictures, burns, tears, and tracheoesophageal fistula.
