The ideal reference range for fibrinogen in blood tests is generally considered to be 200-400 mg/dL. Levels below this range are defined as hypofibrinogenemia (low fibrinogen), while levels above are defined as hyperfibrinogenemia (high fibrinogen). High fibrinogen levels can increase the risk of cardiovascular events such as thrombosis and stroke, whereas low levels increase the risk of bleeding.
