After an ERCP, a common question arises regarding when one can resume eating. Generally, if the patient does not experience abdominal pain or pancreatitis following the procedure, oral feeding can be gradually reintroduced, progressing towards a normal diet before discharge. It is crucial to ensure the swallowing reflex has returned to normal before commencing any oral intake. For purely diagnostic ERCPs, a normal diet can often be resumed relatively quickly. However, if therapeutic interventions were performed, the patient should consume only liquid or soft foods for a period determined by the physician. It is common to experience a sore throat or bloating temporarily after the procedure. Until these symptoms subside, it is advisable to avoid hard, acidic, or spicy foods.
