Tetralogy of Fallot surgery is typically performed around one year of age. During this operation, the ventricular septal defect (VSD) is closed. Additionally, excessive muscle tissue in the right ventricular outflow tract, specifically beneath the pulmonary artery, is resected to ensure adequate blood flow to the lungs. Thanks to current surgical techniques, care is taken to preserve the structure of the pulmonary valve.
