Malabsorption syndrome is a digestive disorder where the body struggles to effectively digest and absorb nutrients from food. This condition is primarily characterized by impaired absorption of vitamins, minerals, and other vital nutrients in the small intestine. It typically arises from damage to the small intestinal mucosa (lining), which is responsible for nutrient uptake, and can have various underlying causes. Consequently, the body fails to benefit adequately from consumed food, leading to digestive issues, nutrient deficiencies, and potentially malnutrition over time.
