Before an abdominoplasty, a comprehensive physical examination should be performed. During this examination, all existing scars and hernias on the abdominal wall should be recorded, and the quantity, elasticity, and overall condition of the abdominal skin should be thoroughly assessed. Pre-operative photographs should be taken, and the patient should be fully informed about the potential outcomes and limitations of the operation. It should be clearly stated to the patient that the removal of excess skin and fat tissue will not completely flatten bloating caused by intra-abdominal fat. Furthermore, it should be emphasized that, especially in women who have had multiple pregnancies, stretch marks (striae) in the abdominal region will not completely disappear after surgery; only those stretch marks located below the navel and within the section to be surgically removed will be eliminated. The location and appearance of the post-operative scar should be demonstrated to the patient directly on their body or through photographs. The nature of this scar and potential wound healing issues should also be discussed in detail with the patient.
