Unilateral removal of a parotid or submandibular gland typically does not lead to significant salivary insufficiency or dry mouth. The salivary glands on the opposite side of the face, along with the numerous microscopic salivary glands throughout the oral cavity, compensate for the removed gland's function. In the long term, essential functions such as eating and speaking are generally not affected after salivary gland surgeries.
