Failure of a ureteral stone to pass or be removed can lead to permanent, irreversible kidney damage and renal failure due to persistent obstruction in the kidney. Therefore, if the ureteral stone completely blocks the urinary tract and prevents urine flow, immediate intervention is necessary. If the passage of the stone is awaited, kidney function should be closely monitored, and ultrasonography should be used to observe whether swelling is present in the kidney or whether it is increasing.
