The ELISA test is used in the diagnosis of various diseases by demonstrating the reaction between an antigen (a specific protein of a microorganism) and an antibody (a protein molecule produced in response to the antigen). An enzyme is used to make the test result visible. The ELISA test can detect infectious agents or antibodies the body produces against them.
