How is Dysentery Treated?
Treatment of severe dysentery includes fluid therapy alongside treatment targeting the causative microbial agent. In amoebic dysentery, amoebae are killed using medications such as metronidazole. In bacillary dysentery, antibiotics effective against Shigella bacteria are used. Anti-diarrheal medications are not used in dysentery treatment. Recovery without antibiotics is possible, and your doctor will determine the necessity of antibiotics.
