Cross-linking treatment cannot be applied to advanced-stage keratoconus patients who have significant scarring (opacities) or cracks in the cornea, or who have severely thinned corneas. Therefore, early diagnosis and timely intervention are critically important to halt the progression of the disease and evaluate appropriate treatment options.
