The most common symptoms of Sjögren's syndrome are dry mouth and dry eyes, due to the disease affecting the salivary and tear glands. Frequent dental caries can occur due to dry mouth. Dry eyes may cause burning, stinging, and blurred vision. Systemic symptoms may occur when glands other than these are affected.
These symptoms may include fatigue, muscle and joint pain, rash, and symptoms related to the affected organ (lungs, kidneys, liver). Sjögren's syndrome can occur alone or in conjunction with other diseases. Other diseases with which it may occur include, primarily, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, primary biliary cholangitis, systemic sclerosis, polymyositis, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and interstitial pulmonary fibrosis.
