Flat feet (pes planus) in children and adults usually don't cause problems. Often not hindering sport or any activity, flat feet in children may persist until a certain age.
Symptoms of flat feet:
Pain
The most common symptom in flat feet is foot and calf pain resulting from strained muscles and ligaments. Abnormal stress on the knees and hips can also cause pain in these joints.
Pain can be felt:
* In the inner ankles
* In the arches of the feet
* In the calves
* In the knee joints
* In the hip joints
* In the lower back
Rapid wear and tear of shoes
Due to the altered gait pattern in flat feet, shoes, especially their inner sides, may wear out faster.
Rapid fatigue in the legs
Stiffness or numbness in the feet
Swelling in the feet
Calluses secondary to gait abnormalities in the feet
Problems with walking or balance may also be experienced.
