The diaphragm is a large, dome-shaped respiratory muscle composed of muscle and tendons, controlled by the phrenic nerve, and responsible for 60-80% of respiration. This structure separates the thoracic cavity from the abdominal cavity. Its right side directly contacts the liver, while its left side is adjacent to organs such as the stomach, colon, and spleen.
