Pleural fluid is a physiological fluid located between the pleura (lung membranes) that facilitates the frictionless movement of the lung within the chest wall during respiration. Normally, the amount of this fluid is very small and cannot be detected by radiological imaging methods if there is no underlying disease. However, when the fluid amount increases due to various pathological conditions, it becomes visible through radiological examinations.
