In a standard abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), an incision is made in the lower abdomen, typically extending laterally from the area of a previous C-section scar towards the anterior superior iliac spines of the hip bones. A separate incision is also created around the navel. The abdominal skin is then meticulously lifted from the underlying abdominal muscles up to the level of the rib cage. The fascial sheaths of the abdominal muscles are subsequently tightened with sutures to create a firmer, flatter abdominal wall. Excess skin and fat are removed by carefully redraping the abdominal skin downwards. The navel is then repositioned to its new anatomical location. Frequently, liposuction is combined with this procedure to further refine and contour the entire anterior and lateral abdominal regions by removing localized fat deposits.
