Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is an effective treatment option for patients who have not responded to conventional treatment methods, especially injection therapies. Although ESWT is commonly referred to in popular culture as 'breaking' or 'crushing' heel spurs, this expression does not fully reflect the true mechanism of the therapy. The primary goal of the treatment is not to physically break the bony protrusion seen on X-rays beneath the heel. Instead, high-energy sound waves are used to create controlled micro-traumas and micro-bleeds in the region where the plantar fascia attaches to the heel bone. This process aims to stimulate the body's natural healing mechanisms, thereby accelerating tissue regeneration and recovery.
