In the treatment of pilonidal sinus, the most effective and frequently preferred method is surgical intervention. Non-surgical treatment options include draining the cyst, phenol application, laser therapy, and antibiotic use for infection control. These alternative methods may generally be considered for cases unsuitable for surgery or early-stage cases; however, their recurrence rates can be higher compared to surgery. Supportive applications like warm compresses can temporarily alleviate discomfort in the area but do not provide a definitive cure. The primary goal of surgical intervention is the complete removal of the pilonidal sinus tract and the placement of the surgical incision outside the gluteal cleft as much as possible to positively affect healing. Before surgery, it is crucial to control an existing infection with antibiotic treatment.
