Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) is an advanced endoscopic method used in the treatment of achalasia or certain other diseases of the esophagus. Performed in a limited number of specialized centers worldwide, POEM is an endoscopic procedure carried out through the mouth. With this method, the muscles in the esophagus affected by achalasia or exhibiting functional impairment are endoscopically cut. This alleviates patients' swallowing difficulties and enables them to eat comfortably.
