Following the collection procedure, the donor is typically kept under observation for 24 hours before discharge. The collected bone marrow is then processed through specialized filters to remove any admixed fat or small bone fragments. If not intended for immediate use, it is cryopreserved in specialized solutions. When required, it is thawed and administered to the patient in a manner similar to a blood transfusion. Once infused, these hematopoietic stem cells migrate to the recipient's bone marrow, where they typically begin producing new blood cells within 2-4 weeks.
