Paraplegia is a condition characterized by the partial or complete loss of functions transmitted via nerves, resulting from damage to the spinal cord. Key symptoms include a reduction or complete paralysis of muscle strength (motor function loss), and partial or complete loss of sensations such as pain, heat, touch, and position (sensory function loss). Weakening or complete loss of reflexes may also be observed. Furthermore, dysfunctions in autonomic functions, such as bowel and bladder control—meaning difficulty with or loss of control over urination and defecation—are also significant symptoms of paraplegia.
