Following open-heart surgery, patients are closely monitored in the intensive care unit by experienced ICU doctors and nurses for 1 to 3 days. This duration may vary depending on the patient's clinical condition. Temporary pacing wires are placed on the heart during surgery; if no rhythm issues develop, these wires will be removed by your surgeon. During the post-operative recovery process, physiotherapists will guide you on proper movement techniques, and doctors will provide detailed information about your dietary regimen. If you notice any changes in your bowel movements (e.g., inability to have a bowel movement), please inform your ward nurse. If wound healing is progressing well, there is no objection to showering approximately 4 days after the surgery. Your weight will be regularly monitored throughout your hospital stay. After discharge, it is crucial to protect your breastbone for the first 8 weeks. Your doctors will inform you on how to support your chest during activities such as coughing or sneezing. A chest brace may be recommended if necessary. Heavy lifting must be strictly avoided for the first two months after surgery. It is normal to experience sleep problems during the recovery period, and psychological support should be sought if needed.
