Testicular torsion in infants is a condition that typically appears within the first 3-5 days after birth. It occurs due to the inadequate fixation of the lower pole of the testis to the scrotum. Furthermore, the risk of torsion is significantly higher in children diagnosed with retractile or undescended testes.
Neonatal testicular torsion, also known as extravaginal torsion, is observed in approximately 5% of cases. Notably, about 70% of these cases in newborns develop in utero (during the intrauterine period).
